Have you ever sold goods or products to a customer with ease to later go through serious processes just to retrieve your money? Then you’re not alone. I’ve been there before and i can imagine how frustrating it is for you to deal with stubborn customers. But, however, the money has to be yanked from the mouth of the lion in order to balance the account
In business and/or marketing, it is almost certain you’ll encounter some stubborn customers. They receive your goods without sticking to the payment modality as earlier agreed by the two parties. No matter how serious you take up the matter, they still become unyielding and you become frustrated, wanting to close down the business.
Relax, to every problem, there’s a solution which is genuine and it doesn’t have to be against the law.
So, drop the angry face, take a sit on the easy-chair and grab your highlighter pen as we journey through the following tips in getting your money back from stubborn customers;
1) HAVE A ONE-ON-ONE TALK
Hell no! I’m sure you’d say. I can never do that. But, relax, and ask yourself this question. Has raising the roof coughed the money out for me? Will like to see your answer in the comment section(there’s a lot going on down there you know).
Nine out of ten occasions, raising the roof didn’t. So relax, drop the high-temper and sincerely go on a one-on-one talk with the client. Who knows, you might be shocked to hear some hidden reasons to the customer’s delay in paying.
2) PLAY NICE
“Here you come again, first, have a one-on-one talk and now you tell me to play nice? It’s got to be a joke.” That’s definitely going to be your response after reading the first sentence in this point.
See, playing nice doesn’t make you stupid or a fool. Remember, the gentility of a lion doesn’t mean stupidity. This way, you make the customer drop all his defence wall, thinking you are weak and porous.
It does not give the customer advantage over you. On the contrary, you get the advantage. The one who needs something is the one that exercises the whole patience he can get, not the one with the substance.
3) GET ALL TRANSACTION DOCUMENTS READY
Now, if you feel the above mentioned strategies ain’t helping matters, though it needs time, get all transaction documents ready to avoid being maneuvered by the customer.
Customers are smart and very calculating. Don’t give them opportunity to maneuver.
4) REVIEW YOUR AGREEMENT/PAYMENT MODALITIES
At this point, you’ve probably recieved your money and it’ll be advisable for you to review or revise your terms and conditions or payment modalities if you still want to continue doing business with the customer.
And what if you haven’t retrieved your money, even after you’ve done everything mentioned above? Sure, know you’d ask.
It’s simple, review your payment modalities and take the last bullet below.
5) INVOLVE YOUR LAWYER
Take the last and sometimes not really required step. Consult your lawyer for proper legal action.
Now, you may feel this should have been the one and only ultimate step. But, to tell you the truth, in most cases, the easy way to a man’s heart isn’t by drawing a battle-line but by getting a cause to make the person realize the reality of things.
